From the second largest progressive community of Spain – Comunidad Judía Reformista de Madrid or the Reform Jewish Community of Madrid – comes a collection of recipes inspired by and organized around the Sephardic tradition of holding a Seder on Rosh Hashanah. All together there are 52 recipes, each one accompanied by a story of a family that contributed it. A testament to the diversity of Madrid’s Reform Congregation this cookbook contains more than just Sephardic cuisine – Ashkenazi, Mizrahi, and even Spanish-cuisine-inspired recipes showcase the vibrancy of many Jewish culinary traditions. With each section dedicated to one siman, or symbolic ingredient – yehi ratzones or wishes, included in the text – the book takes the cook and the reader through the process of cooking for, organizing, and leading a Rosh Hashanah Seder. Featuring menus and rich photography this collection is your guide to this beautiful Sephardic tradition and an introduction to Jewish life in modern Spain. All proceeds from the sale of this book will go to benefit the Reform Jewish Community of Madrid.
